I would first like to take the opportunity to thank all present at the last Parish Council meeting for your hospitality and for going easy on me!
Sgt Vaughan Hancock has unfortunately transferred to the Metropolitan Police Service. Normal service has been resumed by Acting Police Sergeant Chris Phillips. Chris has twenty plus years in the job and will continue to guide the team at Mistley until a new replacement is put in post.
As always I am available on the contact numbers I have provided and on email. Please leave a message for me should I not be in the office.
Reported crime over the last 2 months has been very low within the Little Bentley area. In fact they amount to 2 or 3 drivers failing to pay for petrol at Shell on the A133.
On the 4th of August (presumably over night from the 3rd) an attempt was made to break into the Shell Garage. The suspect(s) attempted to force the shutters. This was unsuccessful and no entry was gained. The garage has been subject of previous burglaries which can be attributed to its remote location.
Otherwise there have been no crime incidents of note. I want it to stay like this for everyone’s sake and would appeal for vigilance from the residents of the village. Any suspicious persons or incidents should be reported to us via the normal channels.
Likewise I am aware that not all crime is reported to police. I would encourage residents to report crime and issues to police. I cannot instigate an investigation without an initial report and we need to know what the problems are in order to find a solution!!
In respect of the ongoing issue with motorcycles/vehicles speeding through the village. I am hoping that my personal presence in the area has been acknowledged. I know some residents have seen me but if you haven’t it doesn’t mean I haven’t been there….!! (I won’t reveal my hiding places).
There is obviously a number of people who ignore the posted speed limits and I agree that it is dangerous and an intolerable situation. Im afraid there is no easy solution to this problem. I will continue to patrol the area and targets speeding vehicles. I have made the traffic department aware and where possible they will allocate resources to patrol the area.
The issue of speeding motorcycles is a long standing Tendring wide problem. Im afraid the bike meets at Gt Bentley do attract a large number of bikers of varying experience and responsibility. All villages surrounding Gt Bentley suffer from speeding and noise nuisance and unfortunately specific resourcing has to be shared evenly.
You will see me at various locations with the handheld speed gun. I have recently made contact with the coordinator of a scheme run by Essex Police that trains members of the public to use the speed detection equipment themselves. If there is anyone who would be interested in getting involved in this or would like to know more please contact me. I have only enquired at this stage so I don’t know what the criteria will be or whether we could be funded to do this. Watch this space!
